Hike to a blue heron nesting grove!
On April 28th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, join Otsego Land Trust and Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society for a unique perspective into the world of nesting Blue Herons at a privately conserved property in Burlington Flats. DOAS co-president Andy Mason will lead a walk to observe the Blue Heron Rookery.
Andy Mason is co-president of the Delaware-Otsego Audubon Soc. He is past chair of the Audubon Council of NY State, and past president of the NY State Ornithological Assoc. He has been an active birder for over 30 years, participated in the NY State Breeding Bird Atlas, and has led bird workshops for the Appalachian Mountain Club. He also serves as president of the Schoharie Land Trust.
Annual Woodcock Guided Walk
On Sunday, April 14 from 6:45 to 8:20 PM, join Otsego Land Trust and Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society for our annual Woodcock Walk at the Parslow Road Conservation Area. DOAS locals Sandy Bright and Charlie Scheim will lead a walk to observe the spring courtship ritual of the woodcock.

Guided Hike: Trees as Unique & Complex Messengers
Learn about how trees are unique and complex messengers on a guided walk with Otsego Land Trust and SUNY Oneonta Biologist Dr. Sean Robinson. We will walk on a private 271-acre property that is protected forever through a conservation easement Otsego Land Trust is a community-based nonprofit that protects fields, forests, waterways, and scenic views in perpetuity.
Dr. Sean Robinson teaches courses in Botany including Bryology, Vascular Plant Systematics, Dendrology, and Field Botany. He is also involved in teaching an introductory organismal biology course. Dr. Robinson’s research is focused on the phylogeography of plants, particularly moss and other kinds of bryophytes. Additionally, Dr. Robinson conducts research focused on vegetation dynamics on alpine summits.
Fall Foliage Hike with Local Celeb Tom Walsh
The views from Fetterley Forest are stunning in the fall, with visibility to Canadarago Lake and Deowongo Island. Long-distance hiker Tom Walsh has logged hundreds of miles across our region to raise money for charity, and will be leading the hike.

Beer Hike @ Ommegang
Like hiking? Like fall? Like beer?
Adults 21 and older are invited to the Otsego Outdoors Beer Hike on Saturday, September 23 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm at Brewery Ommegang. You’ll get to hike on a trail that Ommegang is opening up just for the day. After the hike, which is steep in places and should take about an hour, you earn a beer token (good for a beer or a non-alcoholic beverage of your choice).
There will be music and the Otsego Outdoors partner organizations (Otsego Land Trust, Otsego County Conservation Association, Butternut Valley Alliance and Otsego 2000) will have information on their upcoming programs and events.
And, it’s the first day of fall, so the newest Fall Octet Challenge will officially be launched! The Beer Hike counts as one of the 8 required activities too.
Free, but donations welcome. Space is limited, so please sign up in advance to ensure you have a spot. You can select the time you start your hike when you register.
Mohawk Valley Gives Fundraiser

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties will host its second year of “Mohawk Valley Gives,” a 24-hour community-wide giving day to benefit nonprofit organizations serving the Mohawk Valley region.
Farmers and Landowners Harvest Gathering
To honor conservation easement landowners and farmers: hosted on 105 acres of conserved land at Cahoon Fen & Forest, come gather for an evening celebrating visionaries of land conservation, farming, and the future of food.
Exhibition of Brookwood Point Paintings
This summer artists from all over will come together to paint the gorgeous landscapes and gardens at Brookwood Point Conservation Area and Historic Gardens on Otsego Lake. The artwork created will be featured in an exhibition at the Library in Cooperstown.
Yoga in the Gardens
Please join yoga teachers Nicole and Erin for a Gentle Vinyasa Yoga Flow Class and a Therapeutic Sound Bath to benefit historic Brookwood Garden. Participants can expect a 45 minute asana class in the garden followed by a crystal singing bowl sound bath. Healing with sound can support and provide relief from a variety of ailments such as stress, anxiety, depression, mood swings, addiction and pain.
