  2. Take photos of what you do along the way.

  3. Submit your photos here.

  4. We will mail you your badge!

How do I earn a badge?

Hike + Observe

Hike somewhere fun + observe five things while you’re on your hike. You can record your observations with photos, by drawing them in a notebook, or by writing your observations down.

Make a Bug Hotel

Bugs are very important to humans and wildlands. They help pollinate flowers so the vegetables and fruit we eat can grow, and they attract birds. Making a bug hotel lets bugs have a safe space to live!

Plant Something

“The natural world is losing thousands of species a year, due largely to habitat loss” (Wild Yards Project). Plant something native to New York - wild places provide habitat for creatures, and help our ecosystem thrive.

Help Nature Thrive

Go somewhere outside, even your own backyard, and help it thrive. There are so many ways to do this.

Spot 5 birds

Then draw one of them. Birds, like bugs, help humans and the ecosystem by pollinating and eating pests. Birds are also fun to watch, each with unique sounds, colors, and attitudes.

Draw a Need

Draw a picture of something in your community that needs help. Is there a bridge on a trail that needs fixing so that others can enjoy nature? Are there animals in a habitat that need help? Be creative - anything goes!

Flora + Fauna Learning

Learn about a native plant or animal. Show us what you learned by taking a photo, drawing, or writing about it.

Your Idea

Come up with your own creative idea - what would a Wildland Protector do? How can you be a Wildland Protector in your community? What would be a fun way to protect our fields, forests, or wetlands?

Ready to submit?

CONGRATS!! Now that you’ve finished your five activities, submit them below.

We will mail you your official Land Trust Wildlife Protector badge within two weeks!

The term seventh generation and the philosophy of looking forward seven generations comes from the Great Law or constitution of the Haudenosaunee: Look and listen for the welfare of the whole people and have always in view not only the present but also the coming generations, even those whose faces are yet beneath the surface of the ground—the unborn of the future Nation.

We are responsible for our impact seven generations into the future, and beyond. This principal guides our conservation practices, and supports a collaborative relationship between conservation and responsible development.
