In Cahoots on the Cahoon

Rick O'Keefe walking the land

In the fall you were introduced to Pam Lloyd and her newly conserved property at the headwaters of Cahoon Creek in Morris.

Working downstream Rick O’Keefe and John Chanik have protected another 2,400 feet of frontage along Cahoon Creek, a DEC classified trout spawning stream, as well as 105 acres of fields and forest. Together Pam, Rick and John have protected just under a mile of this important tributary to the Butternut Creek, which it converges with in the Village of Gilbertsville.“Most land is owned privately, so it’s up to the people to use it wisely,” John observed.

“Through our partnership with Otsego Land Trust we’re joining a larger group of landowners and neighbors making a statement that through dedicated citizens this region may remain abundant with the clean water and productive lands that we all rely upon.” – Rick
