Artists to Draw Inspiration from Brookwood Point • August 6-7

What catches the eye of an artist? It’s often a detail that would otherwise go unnoticed. From bugs to sky, no subject is too humble or too grand to try to capture.

On the first weekend in August, more than twenty artists will be gathering at Brookwood Point Conservation Area on Otsego Lake to create original paintings in the open air. With scenic lake views, natural areas, and formal gardens, the site invites exploration and discovery. The resulting paintings will be for sale at the Cooperstown Art Association from August 19 to September 23.

The Otsego County Board of Representatives is supporting this event with a Community Events grant, according to Greg Farmer at Otsego Land Trust. “Our goal at Brookwood Point is to attract residents and visitors to one of the region’s most beautiful spots. It’s a hidden gem and a wonderful place to discover.”

On August 6th and August 7th, the public is invited to stroll through Brookwood Point and observe the artists at work. Each work in progress will express an original creative vision and a specific artistic technique. This rare opportunity to look through the eyes of multiple artists may change the way you see the world. The artists’ work will be reviewed and judged on Sunday at 1:30 by local professional artists Lisbeth Firmin and Richard Kathmann.

Brookwood Point Conservation Area is located on the west side of Otsego Lake, two miles north of the village of Cooperstown and is open from dawn to dusk. The twenty-two-acre property is owned and managed by Otsego Land Trust, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the region’s natural resources in perpetuity.
